meet kris van assche

<><>>>>>>//become sartorially well-endowed with the help of kris van.  he's quickly become one of my favorite menswear designers, infusing a dime bag of goth with an ounce of chic. as far as womenswear goes it can use something but u can tell there's a strong menswear influence used in his tailoring and his design.  the open-toed kicks above were for the mens spring show a few seasons back...seriously..mens.  also head to toe last image made my eyes do a double take, the draping of the pants, and is that two hues of navy? look out for this man and his wayward version of refined.

SCREEN CAPS: how to marry a milli

<><>>///check out some screen caps from "how to marry a millionaire"...i guess the first step is to actually look like one.  its stars an absolute weakness of mine- lauren bacall///and you could pretty much watch this film from 1953 on mute and still feel like you got your netflix instant play's worth.

regarding the ridiculously tasteful fashions of the film, an academy award was given in 1954 to the costume designers, Charles LeMaire and sir William Travilla

also-APPARENTLY. nicole kidman bought the rights and is set to be producing---ehh possibly staring <<>>>> in the remake.

tales of brave ulysees

you thought the laden winter would bring you down forever

but you road upon a steamer to the violence of the sun

and how the colors of the sea bind your eyes with trembling mermaids

and you touch the distant beaches with the tales of brave ulysees

how his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing

and when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body

carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind

the tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers

and you want to take her with you through the hard land of the winter

her name is aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell

and you know you cannot leave her for you've touched the distant sands

by the sirens sweetly singing.

SKETCH BY MARK DAVIS
<>><><<<>><<>><<>><<>><<>>>><<>//////////

MINE.

KLUDDDER<>>>>  forget who made the masterpiece above, but wonderwoman must've really been asking for it- totally kidding (cant afford to piss off my 99.9888% female viewers). although as long as we're speaking of women who were clearly asking for it, lets bring up cruela deville, because not only is there a complete lack of C.D. on these blogs, but in all reality ladies and gents..who else can rok two toned hair? (and curlers nonetheless). moving right along- in the sketch below i tried something new not sure if i'm liking it but- change trumps anything consistently comfortable eh?

SKETCH///>> POP QUIZ

<>>///throw me a bone...
...what designer was used to bring you this sketch, can anyone guess?
to be completely honest i forgot where i got the inspiration from
hint: think spring 2010

>>> about the sketch > > >
after posting about tribal influence the other day, i couldnt help but bring it to the page and come full circle with it.  its way too fun of a theme to just be a bystander of so i found a way to make it my own via sketching.  sorry for the off skin color, i'm in talks right now with my abused mastercard to bring photoshop to my mac, but for now i answer to the negligent wills of the only shotcaller i got- scanner.

to keep your eye upon
as i turn turn turn the world
so about this, the music isnt the sharpest, or the most catchy, but what we got is this rubik's cube light show that will keep you watchin in the same way we cant help but continue to watch the jersey shore week after week...c'mon i know you're out there..and i definitely know i wasnt the only one who caught the marathon last night, compelling stuff.  OK back to where i was goin- inside the very center of the cube is where the live set is run by french artist etienne de crecy.  this was a clip from last year in rennes, france during the transmusicales festival

ANDY JOHNSTONE'S COLUMBIA

this post is one of my more favs cause i get to tell you guys about a talented photographer, snowboarder, manual-car-driver, and my friend andy johnstone.

andy went to columbia about a few weeks ago to work on a freelance project and came back with a nikon full of glory- good thing customs let him go, although if forced to belong- he was getting along famously with the country's people <<<

above are three images that absolutely stand alone, to get lost in some more photos/order prints of his: arjohnst.deviantart.com

my rational for this one was simply: well i like sketching half naked people, but even more importantly, how can i find a way to place dumbo in here- that friendly flying elephant we all grew up with? hah, kinda a stretch here but its only a sketch. also it was inspired by an editorial i found with the oh so captivating natalia vodianova.

some of you may be happy to hear that  v a m p i r e   w e e k e n d   is coming out with their sophomore album, CONTRA, leaks have been getting around town, first with white sky, horchata, and now california english.  even though auto-tune has slapped you in the face time and time again with its inflated silliness, i think its worth it to hear just one more on its way out.  its clear from this live sample, that v.w. definitely had fun f*cking around with the effects

Daytripping with Bruno Dayan

so sorry posts have been lacking, i've recently had some wisdom pulled out of my mouth. while spending most of my days in bed, i did happen to come across a french sartorial photographer, bruno dayan. based out of paris, his intricate use of lighting and tones of latent sexuality have become two main elements that have shaped the direction of his work. if you ask me, his work is anything but latent.

Lanvin Spring 2010 SKETCH

STYLE.COM

i know i posted about lanvin earlier but i cant emphasize enough to all y'all about how broodingly chic every collection that rolls off the direction of alber's hands are.  black has become almost expected and even necessary in his collections, and in this collection particularly he doesnt threaten has chances of become redundant. colors popped out of a gumball machine, as the runway spit out reds, salmon, emerald, and bright blue. the jewelry itself was a gluttonous buffet of golds and silvers, lending itself to a definitive part of the outfit.

OLFACTORY FACTORY

i'm sure i was one of the few who was left behind when this jewel decided to circulate the masses, for all those out there who havent seen it...oh man. directed by fabien baron (editoral director of interview magazine), this ysl short was shown in european countries, failing to show in america-as it didnt leave much to the imagination. what they did leave to the imagination however? who was the man responsible for getting the olfactory senses in motion...

also if you guys are bored and 2 am rolls by, and you happen to have this on repeat nearing double digits-kinda similar to me, its pretty interesting to turn off the volume, and watch it with songs from my playlist. check it out with the department of eagles song "piano in the bathtub", and noonday underground's "london." not bad eh, the cuts are pretty spot on. ok i gotta stop. no more. damnit kate.

MEET DWAYNE MICHAEL CARTER JUNIOR

N O    C E I L I N G S     M I X T A P E
don't know if its been released yet, but wayne's album no ceilings (mixedtape) has been released into the cracks and crevices of the almighty internet. by default, it managed to reach my ears where i've been wine tasting it, swishing it around a bit. here is the thought process:
expectations: it has to be good, what happened: ehhh not so great sounds more like a sophomore album that couldnt pull its weight from its predecessor studio album, carter III. but it is a mixtape, and we can't expect much out of his mixtapes after dedication 3 (thank god for the pronounced death of autotune after hearing that)?  after swishing it around in my head: hmm there's something good goin on, listen to the track "break up" nah bro its not your ice cream truck comin around, but the beat dances and the lyrics are about as kid friendly as you'll get.  "ice cream paint job" and "wasted" are also pretty amusing.

THE BLUE-FOOTED FOOL

IMAGES VIA GOOGLE

NEMO, WHERE YOU GETTING THOSE KICKS FROM, HAVE YOU BEEN DY-EN THEM?
birds, ok was gonna make this another fashion post but c'mon do we need another? anyway i was at barnes n'nobles the other day, while my friend was reading about the great cat massacre of the 1800s-really cat massacre- i decided to do a drive-by in the animal section-which by the way is like only one wall..wtf b&n? lets just say that 2 hours later me and birds specifically of the tropical hemisphere have become acquainted.

and now for the interesting shit portion of the post:
named after the spanish name bobo, meaning "stupid or fool" these boobies got their name for being so darn clumsy on land, probably always drunk as a result of their year round mirage habitat. you can see them chillin on the galapagos islands, or in ecuador. and as if their lives aren't interesting enough, they have excellent binocular vision for checking out the hunnies on the shore. also from the picture we can see that they are very flexible- i wanna see u be able to touch ur nose to your stomach. males and females can be distinguished by the color of their kicks, pale turquoise-more generally seen on the gents, and flashy deep aquamarine on the ladies- how fitting.

Stella McCartney Spring 2010 SKETCH

STYLE.COM

alright, so its official my scanner's drunk off the power it has given me- being able to get these illustrations to you guys. hopefully i can get you the [full] original soon, but i thought i'd make the most out of the scraps it gave me. meh and in other news my skin tone color is running on low. and in even sadder news, i just realized that i labeled it lanvin, fuck. ok maybe u guys shouldnt see the original with full lanvin stamp.  again sorry for the the scanner and for my complete absence of mind.

alright lets get this started, here we have a sketch from stella mccartney s2010, it was hard to choose what to draw she had so many bold colors this season mixed in with the natural tones she's become comfortable with using. calling it the structured ruffle, she mixed em with prints, suit jackets, and dresses, definitely a solid collection but again not my favorite from hers.

have yourself a mad men morning...

the other day i went to a thrift store and almost instantly upon arriving i knew it was a waste of time, it smelled like a '94 volvo that had been sitting in the sun too long, there were too many old ladies complaining, i stepped on gum, however-- while waiting for a friend to purchase her goods, i noticed these glass jars and thought - how perfectly mad men they were, the steel labels were beautifully etched out to read "vodka, gin and scotch"- might as well have read, "breakfast, lunch and dinner". the best part was that they were originally 20 bucks, but everything was half off so 10 bucks for all three, ohh and i picked up some beach boys and cat stevens vinyl both 50 cents.  not a bad day at t'all, i guess i should fill these bad boys up.

Giambattista Valli & Versace Spring 2010 SKETCH

Heres a quick sketch of Giambattista Valli and Versace, Spring 2010.

style.com
To be truthfully honest wasn't really surprised with versace, didnt think it was one of their stronger collections (at all), but its always fun to sketch em, giambattista had some fun pieces lots of fringe and sheer. think i'm gonna give stella mccartney a go for my next sketch, she really knew what she was doin this season, or pretty much every season.

Versailles REdo

when i visited this adult disneyland last summer, every inch of this place was done up, louis really knew how to blow all his money-from the bedrooms to the golden gates. but now things have changed- temporarily- todd selby took some amazing photos of xavier veilhan's exhibit which will be on show till december 13th.  that art is great, but what's even better is the stone cold contrast of what is obviously old and new.  the first picture best displays this..just imagine louis and marie getting out of their crib and climbing into this space age bionic horsey carriage.
